✿ Biography

Frida Kahlo
1907 – 1954

Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954) was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico.

Her deeply personal yet universally resonant work explored themes of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society. Her art drew from Mexican popular culture and was influenced by indigenous Mexican traditions.

Though she was largely overlooked during her lifetime, in the years following her death her reputation grew significantly. Today she is recognized as a feminist icon and one of the greatest painters of the 20th century.
